Hawkes processes: some key ideas, links to neuroscience and system identification
Abstract:
Following a brief introduction to some basic problems in epileptology, we present a survey of some key ideas in the theory of Hawkes processes. The class of Hawkes processes is considered as a potentially appropriate gray-box model to describe the pattern of neuronal firing. As such, it is a prime candidate for detecting changes in brain activity, and consequently to predict epileptic seizures. Some advanced results will be presented via simple examples. In addition, we briefly point out links between the theory of Hawkes processes and linear stochastic systems, in particular system identification. Finally we wil present experimental results.
